Floral Gift Bag – Scor-Pal challenge

Hello fellow crafters and welcome to another Scor-Pal Challenge!  Each month the Scor-Pal site hosts a “more than one score” with a theme.  This months theme is Floral Fantasy, so you would make a card or project using more than one score with a floral theme.  Details and design team inspiration can be found on the Scor-Pal blog here.

My project for the challenge is a Floral Gift bag.  Using patterned paper, stamp, ribbon, pearls, an oval die and of course my Scor-pal and Scor-tape I was able to put this pretty gift bag together quickly.  I have a video tutorial below, but here are the dimensions to get you started:

Paper size:  12 x 7

Scoring instructions:  On the short side, score at 1.75″

On the long side score at:  1.75, 5.75, 7.5 and 11.5.

The stamp is an old one from Technique Tuesday Green House Society called Thanks A Bunch.  It is no longer available. It was colored with copic markers and cut with a stitched oval die.

make do instead of new

Recycle, upcycle, diy, repurpose, use what you have, etc……..  These days it is all about taking what you have and using it instead of buying something new.  This is true – especially for paper crafters.  Each month we see  blog posts, pinterest boards, Facebook and twitter feeds from companies with their latest and greatest products.  Everything looks fresh and new but you don’t need an unlimited craft budget to get a similar look – just reach into your stash of craft materials!  I saw this wonderful patriotic card from Debbie Olson:

Debbie O star card

Love the look and the design, but I had none of the materials she used – most importantly was that star die plate.   BUT…..since I have the Silhouette Cameo I knew I could recreate this look – here is my version of Debbie’s card:

 Patriotic Star cardd

The star die cut background took a little bit of time for me – but only because I am still in the learning phase on how to use the Silhouette.  I started with a simple star shape, copied it a bunch of times to make seven rows of 5 stars each and cut it on kraft cardstock – perfect cut the first time!  I don’t know what I am going to do with all the cut out stars but I’ve saved them and will think of something!

The patterned paper is from a digital patriotic paper pack I purchased awhile ago.  I just made a background of the different designs.  The stars on the front are the same shape as the die cut background – I just resized them and cut them out on some of the same digital papers.  The sentiment is from Technique Tuesday and the ribbon behind the sentiment is from Michael’s – I picked that up during their Memorial Day sale.

I am very happy so far with the Silhouette – but I know I have so much more to learn.   I think I am just about done with purchasing those steel dies – with a little work I figure I can cut just about any shape.

working with watercolors

I’ve been playing around with my watercolors and will be showing some of the things I’ve created.  Today is something very, very simple to do.  First, here is the card:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The simple but vibrant band of color on the side could not have been easier.  I took a Kaleidacolor rainbow inkpad – Desert Heat collection – and stamped the ink onto a long and narrow acrylic block.  With my mini mister I lightly spritzed water onto the inked block then pressed the block onto watercolor paper.  That is all there is to it!!

The stamps are from Technique Tuesday’s Greenhouse collection and were stamped with Memento black ink.

coloring with white

Hello crafty friends!  I’m back with a quick and easy technique.  For stampers sometimes it gets a little boring to stamp on white cardstock then color in the image with whatever medium you happen to be using.  What about if you want to stamp on some colored cardstock?  For some products (like copic markers) the color shows through. Other markers just don’t blend well or look right.  In my simple card below I stamped the image on green cardstock and colored the flowers with prisma pencils starting with a white pencil.

Here are the simple steps to achieve this look:

I used prisma pencils in white, blush pink, pink and process red.  First coloring in the stamped image with white.

Next, I used blush pink and added in some color over the white:

Added more color with pink:

Added some depth with process red:

Finally, I used all three shades to blend, add color and to “fine tune” the overall look.

To finish the card I stamped a sentiment (from Tim Holtz) and a “spattering” of white on upper left of the main panel.  The “spattering” stamp is also from Tim Holtz.

watercolored poppies

I seem to be seeing poppy images everywhere.  Is it just that time year or are poppies the latest design element?  When we lived in California I remember so vividly the bright orange poppies set against fields of green.  We would often take drives up the coast on the weekend to see them, stopping along the way for a coastal lunch.  Great memories of those times!

So – here is my poppy card.  The image and sentiment are from Technique Tuesday. I colored them with watercolors – using a mix of yellow, orange and red paints and two shades of green for the leaves.  The background “spatter” was created by taking a toothbrush to the watercolor palette and flicking the colors onto the panel.

The pearls started out white but I used a copic marker to color them green to match the color scheme.

pink and green

It seems everything here is in shades of pink and green.  The azaleas are at their peak here – from the palest pink to the deepest magenta they provide a burst of color for a couple of weeks.  Since we have had some warm temperatures and rain everyone’s grass in green and each Saturday you can hear all the lawn movers going full speed.

Here is my pink and green springtime card.  The image is from Technique Tuesday’s Greenhouse Society series.  I colored it with prisma pencils but did not keep track of which colors.  The background is just a light blue watercolor wash.  I added some lace and designer paper from Memory Box to complete the card.

Hope you are enjoying spring wherever you are!

A snowy scene

Hello crafty friends!!  Are you ready for the holidays?  My shopping is done, gifts are wrapped and cards have been mailed so now I can relax a bit.

I want to share with you something I made with the latest set from Technique Tuesday’s Greenhouse Society club.  The set is called Berries and comes with one main branch image and three small sentiments.  It is the perfect set for a clean and simple holiday card.  Some easy sponging and stamping with a little glitter added for sparkle and you are done!

I started by taking a piece of white cardstock and masked one portion with a scrap of cardstock cut to mimic a hill.  I sponged Memento’s Summer Sky and Danube Blue inks above the mask.

I took another scrap of cardstock and cut it slightly different to create another hill.  I positioned this mask lower than the first and sponged again with the same inks.  By doing this you end up with two “hills”

I stamped the Berry branch in Memento Tuxedo Black, colored the berries with a red marker and stamped the sentiment in Memento Rhubarb stalk.

To add a little sparkle I glued some Martha Stewart glitter on a few branches.

I created a few cards with this panel as well as a gift card holder – shown below.

The Greenhouse Society

Hello friends.  I’m back in my craft room – and it feels great!!  I want to share a card I made with an image from the Greenhouse Society Club at Technique Tuesday.  Do you know about this club?  When you join, they will send you a limited edition stamp set each month.  They are all floral/plant designs with a few sentiments.  They offer a few sets to people who are not members of the club (at a higher price) but there is a limited stock available.  This card was created using the first issued set – it is no longer available.  The sentiment is from Papertrey. orange poppies

How about another poppy card?  This time in bold, bright orange.

This clean and simple card lets the image and coloring spreak for themselves.  No bling or ribbon needed.   The poppies (from Technique Tuesday) were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored with Prisma Pencils.  The sky was done with three shades of blue ink, also from Memento – Summer Sky, Danube  Blue and just a tad of Paris Dusk.  The sentiment is from Papertrey.

bright poppies

I’ve always loved the bright colors of poppies.  When we lived in California each spring some of the hillsides would be covered with pretty orange poppy blooms and we would  drive up the coast to take in natures splendor.  Those orange poppies set against a bright green field of grass was so pretty, but many people know poppies only in bright red.  I made this card for a recent sketch challenge at SCS.

The poppy image is from Technique Tuesday and was colored with copics.  The designer paper is from Basic Grey’s Indian Summer line – my favorite line of from them.  I only have a few sheets left and will be sad when it is gone!  The sentiment is from Papertrey and both it and the poppy were stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa.  The red cardstock is from Bazzill and the white from Neenah.
