Autumn Wishes

Are the leaves starting to turn in your area? I live in Florida and although some of the trees have leaves that turn, it is nothing like the splendor north of us. Here is a card I made to celebrate the beautiful colors of fall.

I stamped the image – which is a Maple Leaf Background stamp from Peddlers Pack (I am not sure if they are in business anymore) with versamark ink and embossed it with fine detail black embossing powder. I then used several distress inks and sponged the ink over the image – mainly using Scattered Straw, Spiced Marmalade and Fired Brick. I used an Memento green ink in smaller places.

The sentiment is from Papertrey. Everything was mounted on some mustard colored cardstock.

winter wishes

I’m just about finished with my Christmas cards – here are my latest two.  I used the same stamp set for both with just a few changes.

In this first card the main image – colored with prisma pencils -is  mounted on a tag created in Silhouette.  Snowflakes on the blue cardstock are embossed in white.  The coloring was quick and easy.

 Winter wishes blue

The hills are made a bit more festive by adding some Martha Stewart glitter – here is a close up

The main image and sentiment are from Papertrey, and the snowflakes are from Hero Arts.

The second card uses the same image but is mounted on a white base.  I drew the hills in on the base card.

 Winter wishes white

Glitter was also used here – both on the main panel as well as on the hills drawn on the base card.

working with line images

Yesterday I used a line image by stamping it on non white paper and coloring it in.  Today I am using a line image a little differently – it is still colored in, but with a twist.

Here is the card.

I started by taking a piece of white cardstock and brushing a wash of color over the entire piece using Radiant Rain.  I have the older version of this product, made by LuminArte – mine are in sponge daubers and after shaking them up a bit I uncapped the bottle and used a brush to apply the wash.  Radiant Rains are shimmery mists – think Twinkling H2O’s already in liquid form.

The colors I used as a base are Solar Gold and a little Bronze.   Once the piece was dry I embossed the leaf image in white.    The image, from Peddlers Pack, is a large stamp – it covers almost an entire A2 card front and makes a real statement – not much else is needed.  I could have left it as is but I wanted to main leaf to stand out a bit more.

Once the image was embossed I went back in and colored the main leaf using Nutmeg Radiant Rain  – this really made the leaf pop while still staying in the same color family.

I  wish you could see the rich shimmery colors on this card – the photo does not do it justice.

I finished it off by added a sentiment (from Flourishes) on a strip of vellum.  The vellum allowed the base image to show through.

nontraditional colors

Stepping away from the traditional red and green, I chose a rich turquoise blue for the ornaments on this tree.

The image is from Peddlers Pack – and they have  a number of images from this particular artist.  The stamp is large – it just about fills the front of a card and makes such an impact when colored.   Since the image itself is so strong I decided to leave off the embellishments and just add a simple sentiment from Papertrey on the front.

I used the following copics:

  • For the greenery:  G12, G21, G82
  • For the ornaments:  BG10, BG11, BG13, BG15, BG49
  • For the garland – just a touch of N1 and N3.

joy gift box

hello friends!

Here is another gift box I just completed.    I love getting and giving gifts that I have wrapped in such a way that the package is as pretty as what is inside.

Here are the details:

For the box – it measures 8″ wide x 6.25″ tall, x 1.5″ deep.   I used  Sizzix dies for this – these are the very large (12″) dies  (one for the top and one for the bottom) that only work in the Big Shot Pro or larger machines.  But not to worry if you don’t have the die or larger machine!  You can easily take a sheet of cardstock and score it on each side to make whatever size box you want.  For this I used red Bazzil textured cardstock – the heavier the better for your box.

For the main panel:  The image is from Peddlers Pack and was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with the following copics: R59, R37, R35, R0000, G24, G21,  and G40 .  Prisma pencils would also work well for this image.  You can’t tell from the photo, but I used a stardust gel pen to add some glitter on the bow and parts of the wreath.    This particular image would work wonderful on a card as well.

This panel was layered on black, then green.  Once the layering was done I mounted a piece of decorative red cardstock onto black and put strips of green cardstock that had been punched with a Martha Stewart border punch on each end.  A strip of red rhinestones were place on the bottom.

Before attaching these pieces onto the box, I wrapped the top of the box with a white satin ribbon.   The double bow was made separately and glued onto the front.

fresh fruit basket

Hello friends!

I’m back!  We’ve been out of town and busy with the normal every day things that get in the way of crafting, and I am so glad to be blogging again.  I’ve been preparing for a copic class I’m teaching in June at my LSS, which will focus on coloring fruit and here is one of the cards we will do.

I love coloring fruit images because they provide a wide range of color choices.  This image is from Peddlers Pack and while it may look like it was alot of work because of all the different types of fruit it really was not.  Because the fruit sections are small they color up quickly.  I think I spent more time on the basket than anything else!  The background embossing was done with a cuttlebug folder – I think it is called “tartan”.

I used many different copic markers to color – here is a recap:

  • basket:  E18, E15, E11, E00
  • cloth:  B24, B23, B21, B0000
  • cherry:  R89, R46, R24
  • strawberry:  R29, R24, R20
  • apple:  R39, R37, R35
  • grapes:  V17, V15, V12
  • banana:  Y15, Y17, Y00
  • pear:  YG25, YG23, YG21, YG0000
  • orange:  YR68, YR61, YR18

The image was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on copic x-press it cardstock.   The blue base card is generic, the mat is espresso.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope to share more fruit cards with you soon.

men at work

Caution:  Men with tools!   This card is for today’s featured stamper challenge and it gave me a chance to use this great workbench image from Peddlers Pack!  Does your guy have a workbench – or do you?  Is it as neat as this one?

I stamped the image (it’s just one stamp that covers almost the front of a card) in Memento Tuxedo Black on Copic X-Press it Blending cardstock.  Then I went to work coloring with copics – I used a bunch and an image like this calls for many colors in the brown and grey ranges.  Here is what I used

E21-E25-E27….E49-E44-E41……Y19-Y00…R46-R59-R20….N8-N3-N1….C1-C5

Once I finished coloring I mounted it on red, then on a caramel card base.

The “caution” sentiment was computer generated and printed on yellow cardstock – I think is is saffron.

Take a closer look at the embellishment behind the sentiment – see that metallic thing?  That is called a “lock washer” and this one is  a 5/16″ size.  I was at Home Depot with Orvil and saw a small pack of these and thought they would make a great embellishment for a guy card.  I bet if these were in the craft store they would probably sell for about $5, but at Home Depot a pack of 12 were about $1.   I also found some cork pieces that I will use on another “guy” card.

Spring is in the air…

Ah spring….is it here yet?  I think we can all agree that everyone is sick and tired of winter.  And I’m in Florida!  It was an especially cold winter for us and even though we did not suffer through blizzards, the temperature did go low enough for frost and hard freezes.  I am ready for spring!

This card was fun to color.  It may look like alot of work because of all the detail, but it really wasn’t.  The flowers in the cart are small enough that all I needed to do was to touch the tip of my marker to the image – it went very quickly!    I will say that the next time I  color this I’ll probably use some brighter greens for the leaves and have a few more blue flowers.   The image is from Peddler’s Pack and they have a wonderful selection of stamps.    Their online store only sells mounted but  you  can call them and  place an order for unmounted by phone.   They also have a brick and mortar store in Beaverton, Oregon.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
