Ornaments

Hello friends – just wanted to pop in and show you my latest ornaments – yes I am still making them even though the holiday season is over! I will make them throughout the year.

These are patterns from The Ornament Girl. The blue and white one is a Starflower pattern and the red and white one is a Pinwheel pattern. Thanks for looking!

Nutcracker Ornament

Well, how cute is this….

I continue on with my ornament making this year and this months is just adorable.

While this nutcracker ornament is not perfect (we always see the mistakes in our crafts), it is just so cute.

I got the pattern from my monthly subscription kit from The Ornament Girl and this one will be placed on my tree right away.

As with the other ornaments I have shown it is made my folding different pieces of fabric and pinning them on a foam ball – or in this case a foam square!

I love how this tuned out, although I don’t think the feather on top will last from year to year, so I’ll have to figure out what to do when that day comes.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope your holiday season is going well.

Gift packaging with Scor-Pal

Hello crafters! It’s December and I am ready for the holidays! Our tree is up, the house is decorated and I even have some Christmas shopping done.

Today I have two projects to show you – both using my Scor-Pal and Scor-Tape.

The first is this cute gingerbread matchbox..

I will be using this little box to package a gift card for a friend. It’s the prefect size and I really like putting gift cards in some type of packaging instead of just including them inside a card. You can make these type of boxes in any size, but here are the details of how I made this one.

The matchbox is in two pieces. For the inside box piece, take a piece of cardstock measuring 5.75 x 4.75 and score at the 1″ mark all around.

Fold and burnish on the score lines and cut the tabs as shown below.

Place Scor-Tape on the tabs

Put the box together

For the outer portion of the box, you will need a piece of patterned paper long enough to wrap around the entire box and wide enough to cover it. Here is what it should look like as you get ready to wrap – REMEMBER – do not attach the wrapped section to the box itself because the inside box needs to slide out.

Once the box was completed I added a tag and a little gingerbread man to the front. On the inside box I added a ribbon tab to make it easier to pull the box out. The sentiment and gingerbread man is from a stamp set I received years ago and I do not know the manufacturer.

The next project I have is a larger box with a Nutcracker die cut on the front.

I did not take any photos as I was making it, but I did keep track of the dimensions.

You will make two pieces – using cardstock measuring 7″ x 10.5″ and scoring at the 2″ mark on all sides. Similar to the matchbox above, fold and burnish on the score lines, cut the tabs, use scor-tape on the tabs and make the box, one for the top and one for the bottom.

I added some decorative paper to the top of the box, then placed the nutcracker die cut on the top.

A note about the die – I was gifted to me so I don’t know the company that makes it. I will say that it is very detailed – so many different pieces – some so small that I did not even use them! I love the detail, but it really is a labor of love. This box will be filled with either candy or homemade cookies and given to a friend of mine whose daughter was a ballerina in her younger years and was in our local production of the Nutcracker.

Memory Photo Box with Scor-Pal

Hello crafters – Happy August! We are in the last month of summer and I hope yours is going well.

This month I created a memory photo box using some camping theme paper. Have you done any camping this year? Or maybe have visited a national park? This quick photo box is a nice way of keeping photos of those memories together. The inside of the box has an accordion style insert for you to add photos or some notes from your vacation.

I started with an 8 inch square sheet of pattered paper and set it on my Scor-pal on the diagonal.

When you place your paper like this make sure you line up the bottom section as well..the photo below shows how I lined it up at the center.

Score at the 2.5″ and 4″ marks…

Rotate your paper to the left and score again at the 2.5″ and 4″. Make sure you line up the bottom of the paper each time you rotate your paper. The photo below shows the second set of score lines.

Continue to rotate and score at 2.5″ and 4″ until all 4 sides are scored as shown below.

Fold and burnish on the score lines and cut tabs as shown below.

Add scor-tape to the tabs..

Assemble the box..

For the insert I took kraft cardstock and cut pieces 3.75″ wide and scored at 3.75″ increments. I chose to use two strips of cardstock but you can make as many as you can fit in the box when folded.

Just attach the pieces end to end. Do an accordion fold to create the insert.

Attach the bottom flap of the accordion fold to the bottom of the box. You can add photos later.

I used a ribbon and a tag to hold a the box closed.

Summer photo book with Scor-Pal

It is that time of year where so many of us are taking some time away from work and enjoying the good weather.

Each year we have family members come for a visit – we live near Pensacola Beach and they get a chance to enjoy our fantastic beaches. I decided to make a little photo book as a keepsake for the memories we will make. It will hold eight photos, although with a little creativity I can make it hold more if I want!

I made it using some beach themed scrapbook paper, my Scor-Pal and Scor-Tape.

I started with a piece of patterned paper measuring 12 x 5. I began scoring at the 4″ mark, then every .5 inch until I reached the 8″ mark.

I did accordion folds for the scored lines.

Then I used Scor-Tape to tape together the outer accordion folds – this will allow me to add the inside pages.

Then I placed scor-tape on the inside accordion folds..

There are a few ways to add pages to the inside. What I did was take a piece of cardstock measuring 7.5″ x 4.75″, scoring in half and adding it to the inside accordion sections.

Once I added the pages I embellished the front. The little photo book is held closed with velcro dots.

Christmas in June?

Hello fellow crafters – we are in full summer swing, but I wanted to share a little Christmas with you.

Just a few days ago I finished this ornament using fabrics I bought at the local quilt store/ I fell in love with these fabrics and knew I had to make an ornament with them. The floral pattern fabric has gold thread throughout it. The gold fabric is actually ribbon that I purchased at an after Christmas sale at JoAnns – they had a ton of ribbon at 70% off right after the holidays and I picked up several rolls.

I hope your summer is going well! Thanks so much for stopping by today!

3 Piece Box with Scor-Pal

HI everyone! I hope all is well wherever you are. Is the weather starting to warm up yet?

Today I am sharing with you a sweet 3 piece box that I made using paper, my Scor-Pal and Scor-Tape.

I have a link to a video tutorial for this below, but here are some of the highlights:

As you can see from the photo above – the box is in 3 pieces, two triangular outer pieces and one inside box.

To make a 3 inch box that is approximately 1.5″ high here are some details:

For the two triangular sections, you will need 2 pieces of paper measuring 7.5″ x 4.5″.

On the short side score at 3″, on the long side score at 3″ from each end.

For the inside box you will need a piece of cardstock measuring 5 7/8″ square. Score at the 1.5 ” mark on each side.

Please check out the video on how to put everything together.

Yes, another ornament!!

Hello crafters! We are just a couple of weeks away till Christmas!! Are you all rushing around trying to get things done?

Most of my gifts are gift cards sent to family members who live in other parts of the country so my shopping is easy to do. I was able to get all my Christmas cards done and sent out last week.

Today I am showing you another no sew ornament I finished over the weekend.

I used traditional Christmas colors on this one and I think the ruffled triangles add a little bit more to the ornament.

Some of you have asked about the ornaments I have shared here and I want to give a shout out to the website where I have learned to make these.

I have a subscription from The Ornament Girl. This particular subscription is monthly and sends a kit with all the materials and instructions included to make a Christmas ornament. It is fabulous, but they only open up the Christmas Subscription once per year in October.

The Ornament Girl has individual patterns for sale – you get a video and PDF instruction file, but you provide all the materials. She also has a few free patterns on the website as well.

You can find information on the website here: The Ornament Girl.

Ornament Gift Box

Hello crafters and happy December!! This is our month, right? Where all our creative pursuits are put on display.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving and are now in the spirit of Christmas.

Today I have a little project for you, using my Scor-Pal and Scor-Tape. The Scor-Pal designers have some wonderful projects as well – you can check them out on the Scor-Pal Blog.

Earlier this year I began to make some ornaments – these are no sew ornaments that are made by pinning folded fabric to a foam ball. I’ve posted a few of these on my blog.

My latest ornament is a star shaped one and I needed a different shaped box for it. Here is how I made it.

For the bottom I started with a piece of patterned paper measuring 8.5″ square. Score at the 2″ mark on each side. Fold and burnish the score lines and cut the tabs as shown below. Assemble the bottom.

For the top, use a 6 5/8″ square piece of patterned paper. Score at the 1″ mark on each side. However before you put the box together you will need to cut a circle out of the center.

Then attach a piece of transparency film to the inside of the box using Scor-Tape.

Once that is done, create a frame for the front by using sizes of circle dies. I used silver mirror cardstock for the frame here.

I attached snowflake die cuts to the front, then assembled the top.

Thankful For You

Hello crafters – it’s November and the holiday season is in full swing. Halloween is done and we are now into the Thanksgiving and Christmas rush. Today I am showing you an envelope I made with the Scor-pal and the Scor-Envi tool. And inside the envelope is a gift card holder.

I started by using the Scor-Envi tool to determine the size of the paper I needed and where to make the score lines. For this 5 x 5 envelope I used an 8.75″ square piece of patterned paper and scored at the 3.25 and 8.75 lines, then turning the paper once I made the same scores.

Once the scoring was complete, you cut out the little triangles where the score lines meet and then you can make the envelope.

For the inside gift card holder, I used a piece of patterned paper measuring 4.25 x 3. On the long side I scored at .25 on each end and on the short side I scored at 1″.

Then I made cuts as shown below.

From here I used scor-tape to attach the bottom flap.

I added this to the inside envelope along with a piece of patterned paper in which you can write a note.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you will check out the Scor-Pal Blog and see what the other designers have made this month!
