Sneak Peek Day 1!

September 8, 2009 at 10:00 pm 6 comments

Today Flourishes is showing sneak peeks of two of the four sets to be released on Friday night – Falling Leaves and Seasonal Wreaths, both created by Marcella Hawley.   Do you want a chance to win either of these sets?  Read on all the way to the bottom of this post for all the details!

First up is Falling Leaves – a beautiful set of leaves perfect for these autumn days.   With this set I created a gratitude journal.  I’ve been meaning to start one for so long  and I’m happy I finally was able to put this together.

What is a gratitude journal?  Just a simple journal where you can express your appreciation for all the good things in your life – both big and small!  It also helps in thinking about things in a positive way and to celebrate the things you have, instead of dwelling on what you don’t have.  All it takes is a little notebook (of course we papercrafters must decorate the outside!) and a few minutes each day to write down what you are grateful for.    You’ll be amazed at how this helps you focus on the wonderful things in your everyday life.  I hope you will start one of your own today!

The journal was created by starting with a plain Zutter coverall and covering  it with the new Basic Grey Indian Summer papers (soon to be available at Flourishes!).  The leaf panel was stamped on Flourishes Classic Ivory Cardstock using Palette – Noir Ink with images from the Falling Leaves stamp set, masking as needed using Eclipse Masking tape.    The images were colored using  the Copic Collections of Poppy, Tiger Lily and Daffodil (see all the copic collections HERE).

Once the images were stamped and colored,  I masked everything and airbrushed the background with the same copic colors.

Take a closer look at the leather closure – I started with a  leather strap that was not dyed and simply used the darkest marker from the Flesh Tones 2 collection to bring out a richer color to coordinate with colors of the journal.  I did the same with the square brad in the corner – which started out as copper and ended up with a dark brown color!

For those of you using the Flourishes Copic Collection – look at the leaves below.  The image on the left was colored using the Poppy Collection.  The one on the right was colored with the same Poppy collection plus a yellow from the Daffodil collection.  Just lightly coloring  with a yellow marker creates a wonderful blend of red/orange/yellow – perfect fall colors!

Next up is Seasonal Wreaths – I think this is my new favorite set!  Shown on this card is just one of the 4 wreaths available in the set – and they are all gorgeous!  I’ve always loved these vine and berry wreaths so it was the image I went to first.

The designer paper is the newest from Memory Box – Spiceberry and it contains some of the prettiest designs!  A Martha Stewart punch created the border and the brad is from the Finishing Touches – Beautiful Brads collection.  It was an antique copper brad and I just colored it with the darkest marker in the Flesh Tones 2 collection to tone it down and coordinate it with the look of the card.

Nancy, your journal is stunning! Beautifully colored. I have kept a gratitude journal in the past, but it was not so gorgeous as this. Love your card with the beautiful papers, too!
