basket-final

It’s day three of Flourishes sneak peeks and this third set comes to us from the talented Marcella Hawley.  Marcella always gives us gorgeous images and her Signs of Spring set is no exception. My sneak peek shows off the spring basket – just one of the eleven images included in the set.

Watercoloring seemed the perfect choice for this image, and it was so very easy.  I stamped the image on watercolor paper using Palette ink Burnt Umber and used water based markers in green, purple, yellow, blue and pink, along with a waterbrush, to add color.  Basic Grey’s Euphoria Paper, blue sheer ribbon and blue brads were also used. The base card is from a box of textured cards from JoAnn’s.

Now – take a closer look at the basket – doesn’t it look like real wood grain?  No, that’s not my fabulous coloring and yes the image itself does  have some grain lines it in, but the trick I used was to stamp the image on real wood veneer paper!  It’s not designer paper made to look like wood – it is actually wood veneer.  Pat Dowden (aka the “wood veneer man”) from Dowden Wood & Paper Crafts,  was kind enough to send me some samples of this paper and it was the perfect paper to use!  It was easy to stamp on and can be embossed as well.  It comes in a wide range of wood tones, with the grain very visible.  It was the perfect medium for this image!

This is so delicate and sweet, and you chose the perfect papers as a background for this pretty image. I think I have some of that paper you used on the basket. What a great idea!
